Evelyn’s BFF (Breast Friends Forever) is a California-based non-profit that provides support for women undergoing treatment for breast cancer and helps them obtain funding for breast reconstruction. In the Spring of 2013, founder Evelyn Calip decided to upgrade her foundation’s visual identity to coincide with Evelyn’s BFF finally being granted 501(c)(3) status. The new logo would be destined for websites, t-shirts, posters and promotional handouts.
Evelyn wanted the logo to reflect her Filipino heritage through the inclusion of a sampaguita blossom (the national flower of the Philippines). She also indicated her preference for the incorporation of the traditional pink ribbon associated with breast cancer, and required her non-profit’s motto “Live. Hope. Survive” to be prominently displayed, possibly even in lieu of actual “Evelyn’s BFF” text.
After viewing several early mockups including only the “Live. Hope. Survive” motto, the Evelyn’s BFF board decided that the “Evelyn’s BFF” text should, in fact, be included, and that the motto be relegated to subtitle status. This is reflected in the final logo.
