SportStar Relocation is a Manhattan Beach, CA-based company with satellite offices in every major American sports market. They specialize in relocation services for professional athletes, and their clientele reads like a who’s who of sports stars and film/music celebrities.
When the St. Louis Rams announced their impending relocation to Los Angeles, SportStar immediately began a marketing campaign targeted at homeowners in Manhattan, Hermosa and Redondo Beach to build up inventory of luxury homes that could be purchased or leased by incoming Rams team members. However, since SportStar isn’t *officially* allied with the St. Louis Rams organization, they weren’t allowed to use the Rams name or team logo.
SportStar retained me to come up with a clever solution for their predicament, having been impressed by my work for their sister company Kaminsky Real Estate Group.
Instead of traditional gridiron imagery, my design was based around…a solitary, bemused-looking ram. I digitally colored the ram’s horns in St. Louis Rams colors, added an airline-style luggage tag (with “STL > LAZ” scrawled on it) hanging off one of the horns, and topped the Ram with the words “They’re Coming…And They Need A Place To Stay.”
SportStar loved the ad, which ran in South Bay DIGs, The Beach Reporter and was also featured in their corporate social media feeds. The ad was successful, with sports-loving homeowners calling the office tickled at the idea of a Rams player purchasing or leasing their home.
